90,000 km fibre has been laid in 68,000 gram panchayats under BharatNet project, says MoCIT

The Ministry of Communications and IT has stated that about 90,000 km optical fibre has been laid in 68,000 gram panchayats under the national optical fibre network (BharatNet) project.
The Ministry has also stated that 18 states have expressed interest to rollout BharatNet project using special purpose vehicles. However, the new models proposed under BharatNet will be implemented only after Cabinet approval.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has stated that it has received investment proposals worth Rs 1,040 billion for electronics manufacturing in the last 15 months. Few electronics companies have received the necessary approvals and are likely to start production in the country.
